Responsibilities of the City Clerk

The Burkesville City Clerk assists the executive authority in administering all phases of city government. The city clerk serves as the city treasurer and the city personnel director. The city clerk assists the deputy clerk with water accounting operations and banking transactions. The clerk assists the mayor in preparing the annual budget and keeps proper accounting records to ensure ethical and accountable maintenance of public funds. The city clerk duties for adminstrative council meetings includes the preparation of presentation materials, regular attendance of city council meetings, and the reporting of council meeting minutes. The city clerk and deputy clerk maintain city governing documents including policies, procedures, orders, resolutions, and forms used by residents to request and report on services. Many of these documents are available for dowload from links on the left column of this website. Ms. Spears has an Associates of Science Degree from Campbellsville University, is a Kentucky Certified Municipal Clerk having been awarded this by the Kentucky Municipal Clerks Association and Martin School of Public Policy and Adminstration, University of Kentucky. She is also a Notary Public.

Deputy City Clerk: Marquetta Riley

Deputy City Clerk Marquetta Riley

Responsibilities of the Deputy City Clerk

The Burkesville Deputy City Clerk has the responsibility for billing and collecting of utility service fees in the city. The deputy clerk prepares, proofs and mails tax notices, licenses, fees, and other city revenue documents. The deputy clerk collects payments, keeps accurate records, and manages bank deposits during normal daily operation. In addition, the deputy clerk assists the city clerk with those duties. Ms. Riley has an Associates of Science Degree from Daymar College, is a Kentucky Certified Municipal Clerk having been awarded this by the Kentucky Municipal Clerks Association and Martin School of Public Policy and Adminstration, University of Kentucky. She is also a Notary Public.

City Attorney: Angie Capps

City Attorney Angie Capps

 

The City Attorney is hired by Mayor and City Council and serves as the city's chief legal counsel. The attorney's duties include advising city officials on legal matters, representing the city in legal actions in which the city is an interested party, and attending legislative body meetings when requested.
